AHA Clinics has updated its fee structure (effective 1 July 2024) to counter rapidly rising healthcare costs.

The impact is being felt by medical practices, General Practitioners and patients Australia-wide.

To ensure that GPs at AHA can continue to deliver the highest standards of care to all patients and operate viable practices, the cost of the co-payment (‘the gap’) has been increased by $10 while a $6 administration surcharge has also be introduced.

Australia’s health sector has suffered one of the biggest rises in costs over the last year with the price of medical and hospital services climbing 7.3% in the 12 months to April 2024.

How much is the co-payment from 1 July 2024?

Most patient consultations are covered by Medicare plus a co-payment (‘gap’) paid by the patient.

GPs at AHA have worked very hard with AHA’s finance team to keep your out of pocket expenses down as much as possible.

The new cost of co-payments from 1 July 2024 is:

  • Standard consult: Up to 15 minutes (max. two health concerns), Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm: $40 co-payment (previously $30)
  • Long consult: 15 – 30 minute consult (max. four health concerns), Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm: $60 co-payment (previously $50)
  • Standard after hours consult: Monday to Friday from 6pm, all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: $60 co-payment (previously $50)
  • Long after hours consult: Monday to Friday from 6pm, all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: $80 co-payment (previously $70)

The above fees do not include the $6 administration surcharge or the Medicare rebate.

The surcharge will be invoiced separately to the co-payment however both invoices will need to be paid at the time of the consult.

As is standard practice, patients will continue to pay the GP directly with the medicare fee reimbursed directly into their bank accounts.

As a reminder, consult payments including the new surcharge will be automatically debited from a patient’s credit or debit card.

If there are card or payment issues, attempts will be made to process the payment until successful.
